Perhaps it’s time for you to understand
Women; not a mere object. We have a life to pick, can we not live it up?
It has not been my concern lately as Indonesia (my country) is generally free from gender inequality, shown by the gender percentage of children enrolling themselves in school and being a part of the parliament. I also strongly believe that equal is not definite 50:50, but instead understanding the wants of people, not minding their gender background.
In Indonesia itself, to prevent sexual harassment, the government has brought to life women-only segments in public transportations (Trans Jakarta, KRL, and more). Living my life here has not been hard too. I am currently a university student and I’ve been getting my rights in the right way.
However, the world has been out of hand lately. Maybe my scope was too small and all of these times I’ve been protected by my family. It is arguable whether women or safe or not globally as it is reported that a girl (5 years old) was killed with the motive of her dad’s debt. Not just that, even when being an adult, women often receive undesired treatments too such in-home-sexual-assault (KDRT) which happens massively, reportedly 18,138 by Kompas in Indonesia 2023.
Perhaps the Earth is safer for women outside Indonesia. However, that surely is not the case. In India, a trainee female doctor in Kolkata was raped when she was resting in the hospital. Next thing known is that she was no longer alive (BBC, 2024). Was it really an unfortunate event or is this to turn into a concern?
Will history be changed or will women always have the threat from sexual assault? Even though women created innovations for better life of human, why always us to be scared away? Women scientists, women entrepreneurs, women speakers. Why do some of us still seen as an object?
Even though some women prefer not to have big dreams and live slowly, we are not a mere toy. Some men also prefer staying home. Some men prefer being jobless. Yet we are okay with all of them.
Should not it be the time for humans to change and appreciate gender diversity? Even we are here with other than those 2 genders. Mindsets need to be changed. No human deserves to complete other (non accepted) sexual desires.
